Sasebo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. was established in 1946, with its main center of operations located in the former Sasebo Naval Base. Since that date, the company has expanded its workshops and shipyards to become a well-coordinated heavy industry company with four main divisions comprised of Shipbuilding, Ship-repairing, Machinery and Steel Structures.

In addition to enjoying superb facilities, the company is backed by a well-trained work force, a wealth of industry experience, and the assurance of thorough quality control systems.We are confident that we can meet the most severe requirements of our clients.

  The company started business, with capital of ¥6,000,000, as the Sasebo Senpaku Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha leasing former Sasebo Naval Base facilities from the government.
   May, 1948
  Capital increased to ¥20,000,000.
   June, 1949
  Capital increased to ¥130,000,000.
   April, 1952
  Commenced shipbuilding following promulgation of the Peace Treaty and the subsequent lifting of the restrictions imposed on the industry.
   October, 1952
  Capital increased to ¥260,000,000.
   February, 1954
  Capital increased to ¥520,000,000.
   March, 1957
  Capital increased to ¥645,280,000.
   July, 1961
  Sasebo Senpaku Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha business name changed to Sasebo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.
   September, 1961
  Capital increased to ¥1,300,000,000.
   October, 1961
  First sale of national property to the company.
   May, 1962
  Second sale of national property to the company, resulting in ownership of all facilities leased from the government being transferred to the company.
   October, 1962
  Completed construction of the "Nissho Maru" (132,334 DWT), the world's largest tanker to that time.
   October, 1965
  Completed construction of the first marine diesel engine, Sasebo-Gotaverken.
   December, 1966
  Capital increased to ¥2,000,000,000.
   October, 1967
  Began construction of a series of 210,000 DWT tankers.
   February, 1968
  Ownership of No. 3 Dry Dock transferred from the government to the company.
   August, 1968
  Completed construction of the Shiratake Steel Construction Shop.
   September, 1969
  No. 3 Dry Dock capacity expanded to 400,000 DWT
   April, 1970
  Completed construction of the 'Transworld Rig 61', a large semi-submersible type drilling barge.
   December, 1971
  Capital increased to ¥3,000,000,000.
   April, 1972
  Completed construction of the Akasaki (Dolphin) Wharf.
   March, 1973
  Completed construction of a new machine shop building as part of a Machinery Division expansion program.
   September, 1973
  No. 4 Dry Dock capacity expanded to 380,000 DWT.
   March, 1974
  Completed construction of the No. 1 dust collector "Gravel Bed Filter", with technical cooperation from Rexnord Inc.
   December, 1974
  Completed construction of the LNG model tank using the BS-Sasebo Method.
   April, 1975
  Completed construction of a depot ship slush treatment plant.
   December, 1975
  Capital increased to ¥4,500,000,000.
   March, 1977
  Ownership of No. 1 Dry Dock transferred from the government to the company.
   October, 1978
  Capital increased to ¥8,414,000,000.
   November, 1981
  Completed construction of the "SHOKAKU-MARU NO.2" (800MT), a BS-SASEBO semi-membrane type LEG carrier.
   October, 1986
  Completed construction of the "Kashimasan-maru", a highly rationalized and energy-saving 239,351 DWT second-generation VLCC tanker.
   February, 1987
  Completed re-construction of the South and West Jajima Berths.
   June, 1992
  Completed construction of a new assembly shop.
   December, 1993
  Completed construction of the first power plant barge (100mw), the largest in the world to that time.
   April, 2002
  Headquarters building purchased.
   October, 2002
  Completed construction of a 4,000 Kw private power generation facility.
   March, 2005
  Reclamation of Otsu Berth completed.
  November, 2005
  A 2,500 ton forging press machine and a manipulator were renewed.
  May, 2006
  A 300 ton crane on east of No.4 dock was installed.
  March, 2007
  Sakibe Paint Factory completed.
  May, 2008
  A 300 ton crane on west of No.4 dock was installed.
  August, 2009
