The Sasebo Shipyard has acquired certification for its environmental management system (EMS) based on ISO 14001 in October 2006, and developed environment-friendly practices.
To put the EMS into effect, our company appointed the general manager of Sasebo Shipyard as chairman of the Environment Committee, named the shipyard’s deputy general manager the person responsible for environmental management, and designated the Environment and Energy-Saving Promotion Office of Safety/Health and Environment Division as the secretariat office. We also appointed an environment promotion committee member from each division. We hold regular environment committee and environment promotion meetings, to confirm achievement of our environmental objectives and targets and discuss environmental issues. We also assess compliance with environmental laws and regulations and execute internal and external audits on a regular basis. We have spared no effort to create a corporate structure that ensures meticulous implementation of the EMS. |

Establish and maintain an EMS based on ISO14001, improve sustainability, and strive to protect the global environment and prevent pollution. |

Ensure strict compliance with designated laws, regulations, treaties, agreements, and other requirements related to the environment. |

Take the following actions to prevent global warming and promote a recycling-oriented society:
(1)Enhance conservation of energy and resources.
(2)Enhance reduction, reuse and recycling of waste (3R). |

Recognize that the Sasebo Shipyard has a responsibility to Sasebo Port and residential areas, and execute the following programs:
(1)Prevent marine pollution from oil spills, etc.
(2)Prevent smoke, soot, and dust emissions.
(3)Minimize noise. |

Do our very best to design and develop environment-friendly products in our ship, machinery, and steel structure business segments. |

Every employee who works at the Sasebo Shipyard, including those of our business partners and suppliers, shall have a strong awareness of environmental protection, and promote environmental protection activities at work and in the community. |
Each division shall set environmental objectives and targets based on this environmental policies, and conduct periodic reviews. |
